The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected thousands of lives across Kenya and globally.

We have prioritized the safety of our communities and team members, and particularly during these uncertain times. That is why we strongly uphold practicing and enforcing best practices for social distancing and self-isolation in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.

When healthcare systems are stretched by efforts to contain outbreaks, care responsibilities are frequently “downloaded” onto women and girls, who usually bear responsibility for caring for ill family members and the elderly. The pandemic has further exacerbated cases of Gender Based Violence {GBV} and widened the poverty gap in rural areas. We are therefore even more mindful of the rural women and girls and have intervened {where possible} by assisting them with sanitary products and necessary linkages to report GBV related cases and get assistance. We have also been training hundreds of school going girls on menstrual health management and offering psychosocial support as well as life skills and mentorship to help them cope during these trying times.

Our rural communities are on top of our minds and we are continually thinking of ways to serve our participants in safe and sustainable ways. We are doing the best we can to maintain all our project activities and are taking the necessary precautions to protect  our teams and the communities we work in as a whole.

We encourage you and your loved ones to observe all precautions and stay mindful of each other.
