ACCOUNTABILITY AND GOVERNANCE

WEFA is a Project designed to primarily realize a responsive and accountable county governments through increasing Women demands, oversight and proactive participation. The project is based on three Pillars

  • Education & Information: The project will provide training to women leaders on wide ranging topics including but not limited to, public budgeting processes, Personal Financial Literacy, Community organizing & Household leadership. The project will equally review County integrated plans for the period 2018-2022 and deliver them both to women leaders and self-help groups in a public friendly manner.
  • Networking: The trained leaders across the county will be networked informally and formally through facilitating the establishment of a County based Caucus. The Caucus will be a registered entity with a defined mandate of facilitating women participation in the budgeting and budgetary oversight process. The networking will equally be cross-county to facilitate inter-county working.
  • Collaboration: The Model of the Caucus will be to work with established leaders to deliver change. The Caucus will therefore form an elaborate working relationship with the County Executive & County Assembly through which they will channel their priorities and suggestions for improvement

The Intervention

Design, Execution & Post program Support

This program aims to both charge and prepare youth and women at the grassroots levels to assume leadership positions in different spaces – e.g. cooperative movements; schools, churches and non-profit organizations alike. This enables them to make their voices be heard in any process that will ultimately affect them, their families and their communities. Investing in girls’ and women’s right to public participation is a necessary step to achieving global gender equality and democratic governance.

This is one of our programs designed to help women from all backgrounds and across the political spectrum envision themselves in public leadership. We have courses on cultivating leadership, building networks, fostering communication skills to help women carve their own unique path and learning from shared experiences. We are convinced that women in positions of authority tend to: resolve national crises without resorting to violence, advocate for social issues that benefit all, and allocate budgets to health and education

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

This program focuses on building resilient households by promoting development of business skills through training women and youth in business. By providing basic entrepreneurial skills and small grants, the program will support small family owned businesses.

The business skills training will be mainly done through the development of local business advisors, both women and youth. By training the business advisors on business and enterprise, the trained advisors in the community will be advisors and trainers of local businesses, making follow up to ensure that businesses grow, market their products/services, keep good business records, access government financial support in order to run profitably.

We realize that empowering a woman economically at the household level, translates into better communities as a whole. This program focuses on building resilient households by promoting development of business skills through training women and youth in business.
